The Bells

Bells poem by Desmond. Poems Unrequited blog.

The bells will ring for us
As dusk falls in the moonrise
As the perfumes of the night
And the blue clouds waft
Tolling will follow us
After our long shadows go
Filling the footfalls
Left behind in the soft grass
In the mud where the wines were spilled
In the air where we sang together
Psalms of God and lyrics of lovers

Knelling, knelling
From the trees and the creeks
From the grapes clustered
And the petals folding
Around the stem in days’
Last whispering breath
For us, in the wind
Aglow with stardust
The bells will ring
